Our conservation plan on this site at Derrymore Springs Killucan Co. Westmeath was dedicated to creating and protecting the natural landscape wetlands, enhancing wild life habitats and the natural resource found on this unique 32 acre landscape.

                                                                                We designed and engineered the restoration of this depleted quarry sand and gravel-pit into a high quality work of natural art which is now a 20 acre man made lake. The lake with its crystal clear waters boasts of 4 islands and a 20,000 tree plantation which surrounds the outer perimeter. The lake now serves as a public recreational lake and wetland community park.

                                                              Revitalization of the quarry sand-pit is based on the principle of using natural and directed succession with the goal to initiate creating a quality natural surrounding in an attractive landscape. The primary goal of this project was to create a wide spectrum of natural and close to nature

community’s mainly water and wetland community’s which would significantly help to regenerate the natural character and function of the landscape which in turn complements the integrity of the surrounding countryside. We used the best available technology’s in quarry sand pit restoration we achieved this by using materials that were origin of the quarry sand-pit.

One of the most visible environmental effects of quarrying is the alteration

of the landscape, this change can be lessened through landscape mitigation. This landscape project 

which we ran in conjunction with our quarry sand and gravel business (Derrymore Sands Supplies Ltd) aided the construction and landscaping of this man made lake over a five year period.
